D4vd Arrested In Murder Case!

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Police Department arrested 21-year-old singer-songwriter David Burke, known professionally as d4vd, on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Burke was taken into custody on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were discovered in the artist’s vehicle last year.

Burke is currently being held without bail. The arrest marks a significant development in a multi-month investigation that began on September 8, 2025, when LAPD officers responded to reports of a foul odor coming from an impounded Tesla at a Hollywood tow yard.+1

Upon searching the vehicle, which was registered to Burke, authorities discovered the "severely decomposed" and dismembered remains of Hernandez. The vehicle had previously been towed from the Hollywood Hills after appearing to be abandoned.+1

Investigative Background

Celeste Rivas Hernandez had been reported missing from her home in Lake Elsinore, California, in April 2024. While the body was located in September 2025, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office determined that the teenager had been deceased for an extended period before the discovery.

Prior to the arrest, Burke had been the target of a secret grand jury investigation. The existence of the probe became public in February 2026 after Burke’s family filed legal objections to subpoenas in a Texas court.

Legal Response and Next Steps

In a statement released shortly after the arrest, Burke’s legal team—comprised of attorneys Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski, and Regina Peter—maintained their client's innocence

"The actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death," the statement read. "David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David’s innocence."

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that its Major Crimes Division is reviewing the case. Detectives are scheduled to formally present their findings to prosecutors on Monday to determine if formal charges will be filed.

Career Impact

Burke, a rising star in the alt-pop and R&B scenes, gained international fame with his 2022 viral hit "Romantic Homicide." At the time Hernandez’s body was identified in 2025, Burke was in the middle of his "Withered" world tour. Following the identification, he canceled the remaining North American and European tour dates.

Authorities have not yet commented on the specific nature of the relationship between Burke and Hernandez or a potential motive.
